Choate Admissions Timeline for 2026-27

Month-by-month Choate Rosemary Hall admissions timeline for the 2026-27 cycle, using only the dates the school states.

Choate's admissions calendar for the 2026-27 cycle runs on a few dates the school states: interviews from September through February, a January 15 application and financial aid deadline, a February 1 cutoff for late materials and current grades, and decisions on March 10. Choate does not state an application opening date, so start with the Inquiry Form and the interview now.

Choate publishes these dates without a year. This guide treats them as the dates for students applying in the current cycle, for fall 2027 entry. Confirm each one on the school's admissions site before you plan around it.

Who this timeline is for

Choate describes applicant pathways for grades 9, 10, and 11 and for postgraduate (PG) students. Every applicant applies to one grade only and chooses it when submitting the application. Connecticut residents may apply as boarding or day students, but must choose one at submission. The dates below apply to all of these applicants.

September: inquire, interview, and start financial aid

Your first step is the Inquiry Form on Choate's admissions site. After you submit it, the student receives an email inviting them to sign up for an interview.

  • Interview window opens. Choate conducts interviews between September and February for students who intend to apply for the following fall. Every interview takes place online, and Choate offers no in-person interviews. Choate can accommodate only one interview per applicant.
  • Clarity opens for aid families. Families applying for financial aid check the aid box in the application and complete the Clarity Application after September 1.
  • Testing window. Standardized testing is optional. If your student submits scores, Choate accepts scores taken on or after June 2026 for grade 9 applicants, and on or after June 2025 for grades 10 and 11.

October and November: visits and the first application work

Choate states that families can visit in person or take a virtual tour, and that invitations to admission events, including student-led campus tours, go to families who complete the Inquiry Form. The admission process page lists a Day Student Experience at Wallingford on November 1 among its 2026 events, along with several online Choate Chat sessions in early November. Check the events list on the admissions site for current openings.

This is the right time to:

  • Book the single interview you get, since the window runs through February.
  • Register with Gateway to Prep Schools, complete the Candidate Profile, and submit it to Choate.
  • Ask current English and mathematics teachers for recommendations through Gateway, and ask a school staff member to complete the Principal/Counselor Recommendation and Transcript Report.
  • Begin the applicant essays and the Parent/Guardian Statement (Part 2 of the Gateway application for Choate).

Choate does not post an application opening date, and it says applicants receive an email when the Application Status Portal is available, beginning in the fall. Do not wait for a specific day to begin preparing.

December: finish the file

Choate states no December date. Use the month to finish essays, confirm that teachers and your school's counselor have what they need, and send any test scores if you are submitting them. Choate asks that scores be sent directly from the testing organization whenever possible, or from the applicant's school.

January: the main deadline

January 15 is the date Choate lists for the application. The Admission Committee gives full consideration to all applications complete by that deadline. It is also the date Choate lists for financial aid applications.

If you are applying for aid, the Clarity Application and the application aid box should both be done by January 15.

February: late materials are due and interviews end

  • February 1. Choate states that it must receive some indication of current-year performance no later than February 1. Recommendations, transcripts, or test scores that arrive after January 15 can still support an on-time decision if the Gateway application was submitted by January 15 and the late materials arrive by February 1.
  • Interview window closes. Interviews run through February, but do not leave yours for the last week.

March: decisions

March 10 is the decision date. Choate says applicants whose Gateway application was submitted by January 15, with late materials arriving by February 1, should expect an on-time decision on March 10. Financial aid decisions are available online beginning March 10, at the same time as admission decisions. Applicants receive the admission decision on the Choate Application Status Portal.

Choate also states it cannot guarantee a decision on March 10 for applications received after January 15.

Choate's public pages do not state a reply-by date for admitted families. Read your decision materials for that date.

After March 10: late applications and Gateway closing

Choate says late applications may be submitted through the spring, but it is unlikely that applications received after March 10 will be offered admission. After June 15, Gateway to Prep Schools no longer accepts applications for the coming fall cycle.

Common mistakes

  • Treating the interview as optional. Choate says it is strongly encouraged and must be completed during the current application cycle.
  • Waiting for a Gateway opening date that Choate does not publish. Start the Inquiry Form and interview first.
  • Missing the aid steps. Aid needs the application box checked and the Clarity Application, due January 15.
  • Letting materials slip past February 1. Late recommendations are accepted only until then for an on-time decision.
  • Assuming a grade 12 pathway. Choate's admission pages describe grades 9, 10, 11, and postgraduate applicants.
